Disk Storage Systems

When building IT systems, companies are often faced with the challenge of establishing a system that will be capable of responding rapidly to changes in business operations. The memory infrastructure is an indispensable component of IT systems. It has to be independent in terms of server platforms and the usage of various applications. It must support rapid conversion into an e-business model that will allow the realisation of business opportunities. Even more so in view of the fact that information and data are becoming invaluable to companies.

S&T Slovenia has a great deal of experience in SAN systems and the NAS architecture, where it is one of the technological leaders. Having many years of experience in installing comprehensive solutions, we have gained the trust of even the most demanding clients.

We cooperate successfully within all phases of implementing a system solution – from planning to implementation and to maintenance. Additionally, we follow and actively collaborate in the development of solutions and the elimination of errors with the largest manufacturers of this kind of hardware and software.

Modern SAN (Storage Area Network) and NAS (Network Attached Storage) disk systems allow:

  • Centralised supervision and management
  • Easy management of system resources
  • A high degree of availability and virtualisation of the server environment

Easy management of system resources and a high degree of availability and virtualisation of the server environment are the main reasons for implementing a disk storage system. The infrastructure should provide not only data protection, but also 24-hour availability and accessibility.

The abovementioned architectures enable the devices – servers to connect to the central disk array via an optical cable (SAN) or the existing network connection (NAS).
Each device in the disk array is assigned disk resources called LUN (Logical Unit Number), which are accessible only to devices with sufficient access rights.

Disk arrays support two methods to block-level copy data saved on the disk storage, thus ensuring a high level of data availability:

  • Local copying (Snapshot – only the disk system data that was changed is written; Clone – a complete copy of data on the disk system)
  • Remote copying (asynchronous and synchronous replication)
